Is There Really A Permanent Hair Removal System?
by Mark Willett

It is considered unhygienic and unattractive especially to women to have unwanted hair exposed especially on areas like underarm. Women would probably love to get rid of this unwanted hair and say goodbye to it for eternity. But, is there a permanent hair removal system?

It is hard to evaluate a permanent hair removal method that claims to last. Most people find out that after a certain amount of time hair will eventually come back. There are bounty of ways, through the use of machines, gadgets and treatments, that promise permanent hair removal. Some advertisement would make it sound that you will never be reunited with those unwanted hair just by getting the right amount of application on their products or regular use of their machines.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved laser hair removal machines with permanent hair reduction since it can get rid of hair for long periods of time, through several treatments. With such method, however, growing back of hair is still likely to happen, although the hair's thickness and the amount of hair are greatly reduced. According to The Mayo Clinic, lasers can reduce hair counts by up to 80 percent.

Permanent Hair Removal Methods

Electrolysis This method uses electrical charge that involves destroying each hair follicle. This process takes a long time to complete, depending on the body part because it destroys every hair follicle. The client needs to have numerous treatments within a period of one to two years. Electrolysis is considered the most effective permanent hair removal system. There are three types of Electrolysis hair removal processes: the Galvanic, which produces an electro-chemical current substance called lye to destroy the dermal papilla; the thermolysis, which is a heat current produced to destroy the dermal papilla; and the blend, which is a combination of the galvanic and the thermolysis.

Flash lamp A flash lamp, also called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), has also become popular as a tool for permanent hair removal. With this method, a light is emitted from a hand device on to the skin. The light targets melanin in hairs and causing it to heat up. The heat transfers to the hair follicle, causing mechanical and thermal damage. It is an effective permanent hair removal for large areas like the legs and the chest. Using of this method has disadvantages, however. If not done well, it can cause discomfort, skin burns, skin discoloration, patchy re-growth and lesions.

Laser The main principle of laser hair removal is selective photothermolysis (SPTL). Lasers can cause localized damage by selectively heating dark target matter, which is the melanin in the region where hair follicle is. The good thing about the laser method is that it does no heat or can cause burns on the rest of the skin.

The light is absorbed by dark objects, so laser energy can be absorbed by dark material in the skin (but with much more speed and intensity). This dark target matter, or chromophore, can be naturally-occurring or artificially introduced. Laser works best with dark coarse hair. Light skin and dark hair are an ideal combination, but new lasers are now being able to target dark black hair even in people with dark skin.

Having unwanted hair can be a pesky problem. But with these options, you can actually now eliminate unwanted hair easily. Although there is no such thing as "permanent hair removal system", you can always have the option to remove your unwanted hair through these methods whenever your unwanted hair grows back.

Ten great tips for painless hair removal

painless hair removal
Waxing is a popular technique that helps in unwanted hair removal; it has this fearsome reputation of causing agonizing pain. There’s good news now for those who have suffered through painful waxing sessions in the past just to keep unwanted hair at bay; painless hair removal is possible now. Waxing can be virtually painless if you adopt the following techniques.

  1. Your nerves communicate the painful sensations to your body. Make sure they are numb before waxing. Take an aspirin or use a numbing spray about half an hour before you start. This helps a lot, particularly if you are getting a bikini wax.
  2. Use the kind of wax that is best suited to your skin type. The correct method of application is also essential. Get a professional to work on you. This will certainly alleviate pain in people with a low pain threshold.
  3. A warm shower just before waxing helps open your skin pores, thus eliminating hair follicles with minimum trouble.
  4. Use a good body scrub; this will help clear up dead skin cells and loosen hair follicles before waxing.
  5. Avoid harsh toners or astringents because they tighten skin pores and make hair follicles hold on more firmly to your skin.
  6. Avoid using ice for numbing your nerves; because ice, like astringents and toners, tightens skin pores instead of relaxing them. If you simply want to soothe waxed skin, try using an aloe-based aftershave gel instead.
  7. Reduce your intake of coffee or alcohol right before a waxing session. These stimulants make your skin more sensitive to pain.
  8. Waxing at home is a good idea only if you have been professionally trained for it. Don’t try it if you are confident about your waxing skills; you may end up hurting yourself.

Laser Hair Removal Risks - Know What They Are Today
by Jeremy Cole

Laser hair removal is one of the top choices in eradicating unwanted body hair. It is also one of the most common cosmetic procedures that post significant risks on patients. If you are to undergo this procedure, it is only wise that you know the possible effects on your body.

The most common removal of hair via laser risk is burning. The heat coming from the light used in order to singe the hair follicles can become too high that it causes burns and blisters on the skin surface. The damage can range from superficial to serious and there are even some cases where the burns are too critical that emergency surgery had to be done in order to save the patient.

Another danger that it poses is hyper pigmentation. This condition is caused by the over production of melanin in the skin. This is particularly difficult to deal with especially for people with fair skin because the pigments will be very ostentatious and there is no quick remedy that can be used to correct it.

The thing with hyper pigmentation is that you will not notice it at once. The pigments will not be noticeable immediately after the laser treatment. However, the more treatments you have, the more serious the condition will become until you see all the dark spots on the area where you had the procedure done as well as the surrounding parts.

Hypo pigmentation is another risk that may arise from laser treatments. This is the exact opposite of hyper pigmentation because in this case, the problem is lack of melanin on the skin. This is equally a cause for concern because lack of melanin on the skin can develop into other serious skin conditions. You have to remember that melanin protects the skin and without such protection, it becomes vulnerable to all sorts of threats such as melanoma or skin cancer.

Here are some tips for you to avoid dangers of having your hair removed via laser:

Talk to your dermatologist about the procedure. Relay your concerns so that if there is any way that the procedure can be performed without the risks of burning and pigmentation, the necessary steps can be taken.
Communicate with your doctor while the procedure is being done. If you feel that the heat is too much for your skin to take, make sure that you inform the attending dermatologist at once in order for the treatment to be stopped before serious damage is inflicted.
Do not go beyond what is recommended to your by the dermatologist just because you want all the hair in your body permanently removed. There is only so much that your skin can take over a period of time which means that you have to let it sit before you start with treatments again.
Take the precautions as instructed by your doctor. If there are certain topical or oral medications that you are instructed to use in order to pre-empt any infection or negative reaction, make certain that you do so.

Waxing and its side effects

Waxing is a temporary method of hair removal. It’s used by women and to a lesser extent by men for removing their unwanted hairs. Waxing can be done with the help hot or cold wax that removes hair from the root. New hair growth may take 2-8 weeks after a session of waxing.

You can wax any part of your body including your pubic region. However, it is advisable to apply a suitable hair removal cream after waxing to avoid problems such as redness and swelling of the skin. You can also wax your face; however, this is not advisable. You must use a facial hair remover to remove unwanted hair from the face. With the social stigma associated with facial hair in women, many women use facial hair remover creams to get rid of their unwanted hair. By doing a simple search online, you can come across many facial hair remover creams. Other body parts which can be waxed with any suitable hair removal cream are legs, arms, eyebrows, back, feet, abdomen and bikini line.

The process of using a hair removal cream around bikini area is popularly known as bikini waxing. Likewise, you can do leg waxing, chest waxing, foot waxing, arm waxing and entire body waxing. Although facial and body hairs can be waxed with the help of facial hair remover cream and hair removal cream respectively, this process isn’t free from undesirable side effects. Waxing can be painful and uncomfortable, though the pain is felt for a short period only. It can also boost the growth of ingrown hairs, minor bleeding, red bumps and other allergic reactions.

Waxing is also related to some health concerns. It’s not recommended for people, especially those suffering from diabetes or with poor blood circulation. Waxing should also be avoided by people who are on medications such as Retin-A, Renova, Differin or Isotretinoin, as these medicines tends to weaken the skin. You should also not wax your skin if it’s affected with pimples, warts, moles or rashes.

Do You Know These Facial Hair Removal Options?
by Lalita Hasib

Women... Puberty, pregnancy, menopause... Do you badly experience unwanted facial hair? Is it really annoying or is it just a cosmetic thing to do? Read this short article to discover what how you can remove your facial hair.
Shaving. Not a really good option because the problem disappears only for a short period of time and the razor may irritate your skin.

Plucking is more feminine and more efficient than shaving but the problem is not totally resolved. This option is not permanent even if it's longer than shaving. Waxing is another option but it's painful. We have cream but they are painful too and smell really bad.

Another option is epilators with tweezers. Difficult to say, it may work for some and not for others. The more you hair is thick, the more it works in a permanent manner.

Then come electrolysis to remove permanently with a higher success rate your facial hair. Here, a small charge of electricity is delivered to the bulb to kill it forever and then the hair is manually removed without any effort. Disadvantage number one: it can be painful and if you use a beginner with less experience you take the risk of scarring. The second inconvenient is redness (small lesions that not stay long). And the last disadvantage is the result, you need to kill the hair during its growth phase if not, you have to try again and again. You pay around $60 for an hour.

And the last option: the laser. You need several operations here too for an efficient result, it's around $80 per treatment. It's less painful but still a little bit painful. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on blonde, red and white hairs but you can use this technique for hairs in the ears or in the nose (you cannot attain those areas with the electrolysis techniques).

As always and as we have said in previous articles, you should referrer to your doctor first. Facial hair removal can be more than aesthetic things because for some women if not all, they feel way better without facial hair, right?

Enjoy yourself.

Laser hair removal or bleaching – The better option

Laser hair removal

There are numerous hair removal methods that are in use even today. The most popular methods include shaving, waxing, plucking, electrolysis, and laser hair removal. You can also find many of the hair removal products that are easily available on the market. The cosmetic industry is full of facial hair removal products. Depending upon your skin type and the thickness of your hair, you can choose a hair removal product of choice for removing unwanted facial hair.

The latest treatment method for hair removal is the laser. It’s generally done in a salon or a clinic using the services of an expert; but, with the influx of portable and home laser hair removal devices, you can now avail the same laser treatment at home also; of course at a one-time cost only. Some of the popular choices in home laser hair removal devices are the Rio Salon Laser and the Rio Scanning Laser. These laser devices have been designed with highest safety standards in mind.

If you have coarse or dark hair, then this laser treatment is not going to be suitable for you. You can instead take to bleaching the hair. Bleaching involves the use of a bleaching cream; there is no requirement for a razor and bleaching does not cause a stubble or pain. The darker hair can be bleached blonde to blend in with your skin colour. Bleaching is a process of removing colour from your hair so that it blends into the skin colour. Although bleaching can remove visibility of the hair, these unwanted hairs can become a cause for embarrassment anytime. Therefore, it’s better to remove them permanently which can be possible only with laser hair removal.

You can use the laser treatment for removing unwanted hair from your arms, legs, under arms, and even the bikini line. For instance, if you intend to use a home laser hair removal device like the Rio Scanning Laser, it can remove up to 20 hairs in a few seconds. This laser treatment is also suited for facial hair removal. Instead of bleaching your facial hair or using other hair removal products, laser treatment can be the best and the most effective option.

Laser Hair Removal: Getting Rid of Unwanted Hairs Permanently
by Editor123

Unwanted hair poses a problem for both women and male. Though majority of the people seeking professional assistance for removing unwanted hair comprised women, the number of male going for hair removal is gradually increasing in the twenty-first century. The most popular method for removing hair is laser hair removal. Though this procedure is comparatively costly, it has many benefits which cannot be afforded by other hair removal methods.

The major advantage of using laser in hair removal is that the results are permanent. So a person opting for laser hair removal Yardle has to come for one-time treatment only. The unwanted hair is removed permanently. In a few cases, the person has to come for a second sitting, which is more of a follow-up treatment in nature. Some Possible Laser Hair Removal Side Effects
by writeragain

If are interested in laser hair removal but want to know what the possible laser hair removal side effects are, then you are one of many people. Laser hair removal is an incredibly significant and important matter, and in fact a large majority of the people in the world have had it done; however, in the case of something like this, it seems that there would of course have to be some types of side effects, and this is what begs the questions of what the possible laser hair removal side effects are.

What are the Possible Laser Hair Removal Side Effects? In regards to the matter of the possible laser hair removal side effects, if you are one of those people who is worried about the safety of this practice, it is important for you to know that laser hair removal side effects are in fact quite rare, and, in most other cases, completely temporary.

The most common side effects would include something such as hyper pigmentation, meaning the appearance of dark or white spots, of which would appear on the skin and then disappear in a few months. This usually happens more often to those who have extremely sensitive skin, and more sensitive skins may also become slightly crusty, but again it is important to recognize and remember that all of these symptoms are only temporary.

Basically, in regards to the side effects from such a treatment as this, they are closely associated with exposure to sun or otherwise photo-sensitizing medications. For example, people who go to tanning beds regularly may not be an excellent candidate for this laser hair removal procedure, or they should at least refrain from going to the beds for a significant period of time both before and after they plan on having the procedure done.

It is also considered to be best to have this procedure done in the winter, as your skin has been exposed to less sun, and as for pain in regards to this procedure, it rarely amounts to more than that of a tingling sensation. However the more sensitive parts of the body, such as the underarm and bikini areas, can be treated with a topical anaesthetic, just to make sure that you don't feel any pain from the laser procedure on these extremely sensitive parts.

The most important thing to remember is to do your research, and to allow yourself to learn about these types of procedures before getting them done, so that you will understand and feel more at ease overall.

Permanent Back Hair Removal: What Are Your Options?
by Denden Tenen

If you are someone who is bothered by excess body hair either on you or your loved one's body, you should know that there are options available for you. However you should know that popular body hair removal methods will vary from place to place, and that includes the ever-popular permanent back hair removal methods as well.

What Options are Available to me? In regards to permanent back hair removal methods, there are in fact several options that are available to you; for instance, waxing is a possibility, but can become incredibly costly and is also so painful that not many men are willing to have it done. As well, there is the option of laser permanent back hair removal; the laser option is one of the most popular, as it is quite inexpensive, is a permanent method of hair removal, and is basically completely painless.

The option of laser permanent back hair removal is open for anyone who wants to remove unwanted body hair, and although the procedure itself does not guarantee that of permanent hair removal necessarily, it does last for an incredibly long period of time, and it is most successful on people with darker hair and light skin.

How the laser permanent back hair removal procedure actually works is that during the actual procedure, your doctor will pressure a hand-held laser to your skin, and depending on the type of laser that is used, a cooling device on the tip or a cool gel may be used in order to protect the skin for the duration of the procedure. Also, once the doctor activates the laser, what happens is that the light passes through your skin's surface and the intense heat of this laser damages the hair follicles, which thus inhibits hair growth.

Usually during a procedure such as this you will be made to wear goggles and this is to attempt and prevent that of accidental exposure of your eyes to the laser light. As well, once the laser is activated, you will typically feel that of a stinging sensation, and this is why often times a local anesthetic will be applied before the procedure, in order to reduce discomfort overall.

Regardless of which method you actually end up going with, the most important thing is that you inform yourself on the matter overall, so that you understand the processes in all entirety and so that you can result in making the best possible decision for you.

Which Permanent Hair Removal System is Right for You?
by Richard George

Many people desire permanent hair removal for many different reasons. Whether their aesthetic vision of themselves demands the removal of certain hair, their choice of bikini styles prompts them to remove hair which would otherwise show embarrassingly, or whether they simply wish to rid themselves of exceptionally heavy hair on some portion of their bodies, they are united by the longing to erase some of their hair permanently and no longer need to deal with it through shaving or plucking.

Several different systems of permanent epilation and depilation exist in the modern world, each of which possesses advantages and disadvantages. Familiarizing themselves with these systems lets those who desire hair removal to choose the method best suited to their needs, individual hair growth patterns, and budget.

Electrolysis is the permanent hair removal system which was developed first, and remains one of the main techniques for eradicating unwanted hair. It involves sliding a thin metal probe into individual hair follicles and then electrifying the probe, scorching or chemically killing the follicle. If done properly, the skin is not actually pierced, but clumsy handling can result in a tiny stab from the probe. The main advantages of electrolysis are that it is equally effective with all colors and thicknesses of hair and all skin colors, and that individual treatments are relatively low-cost, meaning that expense is spread out over time. Its disadvantages are that it is somewhat painful, and that since hairs are killed literally one at a time, it can be a very prolonged procedure, often taking two to four years, and the total cost may therefore end up being higher than the total cost of laser treatment.

Laser treatment, by contrast, uses a laser beam about the width of a fingertip to heat and kill follicles without actually penetrating the skin. It is most effective when dealing with light skin and dark hair, since the laser light is then absorbed mainly by the hair and goes mainly to killing the follicles. Dark-skinned patients or those with light, fine hair may find the process to be less effective. People with dark skin may also experience pain with the treatment and need to use special gels to protect their skin. Laser treatment is faster and, generally, more comfortable than electrolysis, but can be more costly per treatment session and can be less effective on certain types of hair and skin.

Finally, some companies now offer creams which seem to offer the promise of permanent hair reduction or removal. These creams are based on bioactive plant extracts rather than the usual chemicals, and can therefore be left on longer safely, increasing their penetration into the follicles. They can weaken and perhaps permanently halt hair growth, although periodic applications are recommended to ensure that hair, once removed, stays away. These creams offer comfort, convenience, and extremely low cost as their advantages, but have not been on the market long enough to prove that their hair removal is truly permanent rather than simply longer than the usual chemical depilatory.

With the range of permanent hair removal solutions now available, the discerning hair remover can educate themselves on the options available and choose one that matches their expectations, needs, and budget, as well as the individual characteristics of their hair and skin.

SciSeven things about Laser Hair Removal
by William Doyle

FDA approved since 1995, Laser Hair Removal has improved the quality of life of thousands, especially female with male pattern hair growth. Removal of unwanted hair by laser is a major advance over treatment such as electrolysis. It has brought hope to several individuals with hair growth in areas where they cause embarrassment. There are certain things you should know about this form of treatment. Some are listed below.

1. What is Laser Hair Removal? It is a laser beam targeted at the hair follicle. The high intensity ray of light gives off heat energy. The laser tracts along the hair shaft, heating it and leading to thermal damage to the follicle while leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. The effectiveness of this treatment depends on the concentration of melanin in the hair. It is more effective in dark hair, less effective in brown or ginger hair and will not work on white, grey or platinum blonde hair. As the laser travels along the hair shaft, there must be hair present. It is, therefore, not recommended to pluck unwanted hair before treatment. Similarly since laser hair removal works on the melanin level, dark skin or tanned skin need special treatment.

2. Cost depends on the size of the area that needs treatment. The larger the area, the greater the cost. In the USA, the average cost per session is $450 and in the UK, the cost may vary from £45 to £450. Treatment may be for several sessions in a year because hair will re-grow. The re-growth, however, will be slower and the hair thinner. Mr. David Gault, Plastic Surgeon, reported 80% reduction of upper lip hair growth after 6 months.

3. What you should find out: Make sure you know as much as you can about Laser Hair Removal. Choose a clinic that offers free consultation so that you can assess suitability and what is on offer. Find out before hand how much it will cost you. Make sure you know whether a medical practitioner will be on the premises during your treatment. Check that your assigned therapist is suitably qualified and experienced.

4. How safe: Laser is a pure high beam light. It does not cause cancer. It only penetrates up to the dermis of the skin. It is dangerous to the eyesight. You will probably use goggles to protect your eyes during treatment. The skin can be darkened by laser because of the melanin concentration. Too much exposure can leave the skin with paler patches that slowly fades away. Over heating can cause blistering and rarely scarring especially in darker skin and people with recent tans. The paler you are before treatment the safer and better the treatment. You should not have laser hair removal if you are sensitive to light or have any infection on the area to be treated. You should not have treatment if you had isotretinoin as acne treatment in the last year.

5. Is Hair removal permanent? Laser hair removal and electrolysis are considered the only permanent hair removal treatment. Although laser hair treatment is promoted as permanent by the industry, this is not strictly the case. It cannot stop the unwanted hair from re-growing. It will, however, slow the re-growth so that it can take several months or years. The re-growth will consist of thinner hair.

6. What happens during treatment? Depending on the types of laser beam system and the area to be treated, you may be required to wear goggles. Laser hair removal treatment can cause stinging or the area may tingle. The time taken for a session depends on the size of the area and can last between 15 and 45 minutes. The area concerned will be treated approximately once a month for between two and eight months. Not all lasers are the same and results may vary with different systems. Before you embark on Laser hair removal, make sure you do your homework.

7. What types of Laser Hair Removal are available? There are various types available. The Ruby Laser is the oldest. It is not suitable for dark skinned or tanned people and only covers a small area. The Alexandrite Laser is the fastest laser available. It is used on light to olive complexion. It is the most popular type because it can cover large areas of the body. The Diode Laser works better for dark skin and is not as effective in lighter skin. It is fast and covers large areas during treatment. The Long Pulse Nd:Yag Laser can be used on all skin types. It is fast and covers large areas. Patients, however, tend to experience more discomfort during treatment. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is not really Laser but will have the same effect as laser on the hair follicles. It is more difficult to use and needs greater skill.

The Benefits Of Professional Laser Hair Removal
by ajit chauhan

Unwanted hair is a problem for both women and men. While historically women have primarily sought out professional assistance for hair removal, more and more men are seeking such services in the 21st century. The preferred method of professional hair removal at this point in time for both men and women rapidly is becoming laser hair removal.

There are a number of definite benefits to obtaining professional laser hair removal as opposed to some of the other common methods of dealing with unwanted hair. The only major drawback to professional laser hair removal really appears to the cost associated with the process. However, as technology has improved, the costs associated with the laser procedure has become to drop over time.

The most basic, primary benefit of laser hair removal is found in the fact that for most people only one treatment is required. Once a person submits to the laser hair removal process, unwanted hair normally is removed permanently. In a few isolated cases a person does have to come back for a follow up treatment. With advances in laser technology in the past decade, repeat appearances for additional sessions is becoming more rare all of the time.

The fact that unwanted hair can be removed permanently in most cases through laser hair removal contrasts starkly with other treatment regimens. As an example, waxing to remove hair continues to be used by a considerable number of women and men who want to banish undesired growth. For many people, waxing is at least a monthly if not more frequent process.

Another of the benefits associated with laser hair removal is found in the fact that it is largely pain free. In some instances, a person who has undergone this procedure will experience some skin irritation following the procedure. Certainly, there will be some mild yet temporary redness of the skin following laser hair removal. However, the procedure itself is painless.

Again, you can contrast the pain free removal of unwanted hair with waxing. Depending on what part of your body is being waxed, the process of hair removal in that fashion can be downright painful. Other forms of hair removal, such as shaving, can irritate the skin for a significant period of time. Rashes and other types of unsightly skin blemishes are common following the shaving off of unwanted hair at certain locations on body.

Laser hair removal is also a convenient and time saving method for dealing with unwanted growth. As mentioned previously, more often than not one treatment will work to permanently rid a person of unwanted hair. While a single session under the laser will take longer than one waxing treatment, when all is said and done you will end up saving a great deal of time by undertaking laser hair removal as opposed to other forms of hair removal. You will not need to make continual appointments and interrupt your already full schedule to deal with unwanted hair growth.

In the final analysis, more and more people are turning to laser hair removal as the most reliable, convenient and reasonably priced alternative for the removal of unwanted hair. Indeed, most experts in the field of cosmetics and related services believe that in the very near future, laser hair removal will be the primary means through which both women and men deal with the permanent removal of unwanted hair growth.

Basically, most people experience no side effects at all, although few may exhibit some short-term reddening of the surrounding skin, for instance, especially those people who have extremely sensitive skin. You can usually return to your regular activities immediately after the procedure is completed, although you should know that it is advisable to keep your skin protected from exposure to any direct sunlight for at least a short period of time after the procedure.

What basically happens during the procedure is relatively quite simple; laser energy is delivered to the hair shaft and bulb, damaging the hair follicles and thus inhibiting hair growth. The best idea is to consult with your doctor first, even if you have read up on the procedure and feel comfortable having it done, just so that you can be sure that you are an acceptable candidate and so you are positive that you truly understand what the procedure is all about so that you do not have it done and realize that it is nothing like what you were expecting it to be.

Alternative Methods to Laser Hair Removal
by Shane Ennerson

The U.S. economy may be sputtering, Wall Street may be falling down and the price of gas may be high, but the current rough sledding in the overall financial health of the country appears to be having only a minor effect on the rate at which consumers are seeking cosmetic procedures from dermatologists and other cosmetic medicine physicians. In its most recent ASDS (American Society for Dermatologic Surgeons) member survey, 63% of respondents reported a consistent volume of procedure appointments among their existing patients in the first half of 2008.

American Laser Centers, the largest provider of laser hair removal and other noninvasive aesthetic services in the U.S., today announces the results of a May 2008. Zoomerang hair removal survey found that on average, women spend more than $10,000 on hair removal products and services over the course of their lifetime. Survey respondents reported they will spend more than 58.4 days removing hair from their bodies during their lifetime. The survey also revealed that women remove unwanted body hair for an average period of 53.6 years using methods including shaving, waxing and depilatory creams.

So how do the different methods add up? While women report a small monthly spend on shaving, $15.87 per month, the lifetime investment for females who shave adds up to $10,207. Laser hair removal for men is now more ubiquitous than ever, as well - especially for things like laser back hair removal. Depilatory cream- or lotion-users are paying slightly more than those who shave for their hair removal, $10,555 through their lifetime, yet they only remove hair one to two times per month. Waxing is by far the most expensive form of hair removal. While respondents reported waxing only one to two times per month, women who wax will spend an average of $23,000 on hair removal in a lifetime.

American Laser Centers conducted the hair removal study to determine the cost savings benefit of laser hair removal verses a lifetime of shaving or waxing. On average, women can save $7,000 by receiving laser hair removal on the areas of the body they typically shave. When compared to a lifetime of waxing, women can save $20,000 by receiving lazer hair removal on the areas of the body they usually wax.

There's been a lot of talk about laser hair removal lately. Although laser hair removal usually lasts longer than what you might see from shaving and depilatory creams, it's not a permanent solution. Lazer hair removal is said to be "long-lasting", but even that isn't guaranteed. Laser hair removal works when hairs are in their growth stage. Since hairs grow differently, several visits are required to catch all the hairs in this optimum stage. Each one of these visits can average $500 or more depending upon the area of skin you want to treat, making laser hair removal an extremely expensive alternative.

What are the alternatives then?

* Shaving

Shaving is perhaps the most common method of removing unwanted hair. Shaving is an inexpensive and relatively painless method for temporary hair removal. Hair is shaved off at skin-level using a razor and soap or shaving cream. Generally it is an accident free procedure except for occasional nicks and cuts. It is also easy to perform and is pain free.

The downside to shaving is that it doesn't last very long. Hair that is shaved typically grows back quickly, sometimes in 24 hours or less. Shaving can also cause "razor burn", an itchy and sometimes painful rash. * Plucking

Most commonly used for eyebrows, plucking is a quick and inexpensive way to remove stray strands of hair. Each hair is grasped with tweezers and then plucked from the skin. Hair that is plucked takes longer to grow back than hair that is shaved. But plucking can be painful and can obviously be a tedious process, making it appropriate only on very small areas where you find a stray hair or two. * Waxing

Similar to plucking, waxing can be a fairly painful form of hair removal since it pulls the hair out at the root. Hot or cold wax is layered over the hair directly onto the skin and then covered with a thin strip of gauze-like material. The hair and wax are pressed onto the gauze then ripped away, taking the wax and much of the hair with it. Waxing is a suitable hair removal method for larger areas such as the legs and back as well as more delicate areas like the bikini line and a woman's upper lip. Hair that has been removed with wax takes longer to grow back and usually comes in lighter and finer than before, but waxing can be painful, especially in more tender areas and can cause minor irritation and swelling. * Electrolysis

This is a more permanent method of hair removal. Electrolysis injects low electrical currents directly into the hair follicle through a needle. This method of hair removal is often painful and can cause minor scarring. The process can take hours, especially on larger areas and frequently requires more than one visit. Electrolysis is also one of the most expensive methods of hair removal and can cost several thousands of dollars depending upon the number of treatments needed. When professionally performed, electrolysis results are comparable to those of laser hair removal, and may offer even more permanent results for people who are otherwise not a candidate for laser hair removal (i.e. people with extremely dark skin, or someone who has red, blonde or gray hair).

5 Side Effects of Laser Hair Removal
by Rachieko

Our bodies are covered with hair, mostly vellus hair which is the fine, non-pigmented hair that covers the body of children and adults. Women generally have less visible body and facial hair.

Women don't want facial hair (except for the eyebrows) but many of them do have stray hairs on their chins. That's why they really have concern about removing their excessive hair with any way. One of the popular methods to remove facial hair is laser hair removal.

Laser hair removal is a method of removing unwanted body hair through the use of laser technology. A high intensity beam of light which gives off a lot of heat energy is directed at hair follicles to damage and stunt re-growth of the hair. It is a fairly painless process and a huge improvement in near-permanent hair removal methodology compared to painful electrolysis.

Laser hair removal is just like other medical treatments, it carries the risk of possible side effects. There are some side effects of laser hair removal that can be temporary or permanent.

Bruising. It is generally not very severe and most people will not even feel that their skin is bruised. Bruising occurs if you have tanned areas in the body.
Redness. The skin which has been exposed to the laser beams would experience redness or get burnt especially for those who have sensitive skin.

Skin discoloration. It is generally a permanent lightning of the skin in the area that was treated. The wavelengths of the laser beam are made to attack the dark pigmentation in the hair follicle. This side effect can be emotionally damaging, although it is not painful.

Unpleasant Look. Others have noted that patterns of hair re-growth are patchy and unpleasant to look at.

Blind. If the laser beams were to come close to your eye, there is a possibility that you could lose your sight because these beams are dangerous.
